What is a Launch?
Image courtesy of Priscilla KillionA launch takes place when the balloons inflate, and lift off from the festival park. The prevailing winds carry the balloon to its destination. Controlled by wind speed, wind direction, heat and air in the balloon envelope, hot air balloons appear to ‘float in the sky’. Launch directors, also known as zebras because of their black-and-white-striped outfits, serve as traffic cops, coordinating the launch so balloons leave the field in a safe and coordinated manner. The balloons will launch Friday at 6:00pm, Saturday at 7:00am and 6:00pm, and Sunday at 7:00am and 6:00pm (weather permitting).
